Wood decaying polypores in boreal forests of Finland and northwestern Russia - Mariko LindgrenField-methods for collecting polypore- and dead tree -dataTwo methods are used for the placement and configuration of study plots; data-sets 1 - 6 are based on so-called "100 hectare study quadrats", other data-sets on so-called "transects". In the transect method, field studies are conducted inside 0.5 hectare study plots only. In the 100 hectare study quadrate method also the surroundings of each 0.5 hectare study plot is surveyed. On these additional 99.5 hectare areas, the amount and quality of dead wood is studied along sampling lines, and decaying fungi are searched for by a time-based method. In both methods, the 0.5 hectare study plots are investigated according to the following instructions:
