Data-set 12:Mature, managed pine-dominated forests in state lands of northern Häme, FinlandSampling frame: Pine-dominated mature forests on dry to mesic sites in the state lands of the municipalities of Kuru, Ruovesi, Ikaalinen, Parkano and Vilppula. Only stands which have been thinned during the last 50 years were included. Field methods: 0.5 hectare study plots (transects). Three randomly selected study plots were enlargened into a size of 1 hectare. Selection of study plots: Metsähallitus (Forest and Park service) and Finnisf Forest Research institute provided lists of suitable stands. Of these Timo Kuuluvainen half-randomly selected the stands to be studied. The place and direction of the transect was randomized inside each stand. Amount of data: 21 independent study plots, altogether 12 hectares. The sample plots included altogether 1490 dead trees, of which 361 were more than 10 cm thick. Data of two sample plots is still missing from these figures. Species included in the study: All wood inhabiting polypores and some other wood inhabiting fungi, see a list of target species. Field workers: Mariko Lindgren. Kaija Helle, Milla Hilli, Timo Kosonen, Ville Selonen and Petteri Tolvanen assisted for various periods. Time and duration of field work: August - November 1999 and September 2000, altogether about 20 days. Areas selected (sampled) for the study: Transects number 201, 202, 209, 210, 215, 217, 219, 220, 222, 224, 228, 231, 232, 234, 242, 245, 246, 250, 252 and 257. Funding: Part of the research project "Structure and dynamics of natural and managed boreal forest landscapes - Linking landscape pattern, stand structure and species diversity", financed by FIBRE (Finnish Biodiversity Research Programme), Academy of Finland. Specimen identification work has also been supported by the Mycology Department of Finnish Museum of Natural History, University of Helsinki. Notes: Specimens are identified and data of 19 sample plots saved in a data-base. All data-sets |
